Now zombies in particular have really struck a chord amongst not only horror fans, but among people of all sorts of tastes. Our popular arts always reflect our culture at large and what's going on at the time. So let's look at what the zombies really are in terms of current events. From my perspective, it's not too hard to see who the zombies really are, and who the barely surviving potential victims. Just look at politics today, look at the economy. Most of us are slowly being eaten alive by the relentless march of "reforms" fostered by extreme right-wingers - from abolishing the Glass-Steagall Act, which opened the door to banker-roulette with our money and led to the 2008 economic crash, to the elimination of pensions and secure and decent-paying jobs, to the resultant and horrible gun violence which is supported by the NRA/right wing (they support the lax laws which allow just about anyone to get weapons of their choice). So yes, their are zombies out there alright, cannibals - really mindless sociopathic politicians and CEOs feeding on we the people - and even on their ignorant and virulent right-wing supporters.
This is the real American Horror Story - and we are all the victims of those monsters and the things that go bump in the night. No wonder I like to paint things lurking in the darkness -- because they really are. I'm just expressing reality.
